Rigged & Ready of Kendal has launched the X10 Lure, a travel rod that switches between spinning and baitcasting, with five tips and packed sections of 40.5cm.

Rigged & Ready, the family-run travel fishing rod maker based in Kendal, has launched the X10 Lure: a single rod that takes either a spinning reel or a baitcasting reel, packs down to sections no longer than 40.5cm, and which the company says covers 10 lure fishing techniques.

The pitch from Andy Rigg, who runs the business, is short: “Why carry 10 rods when you can pack one?” Lure anglers who want to switch between a spinning setup and a baitcaster would normally buy and carry a rod for each, and usually several of each for different lure weights. The X10 puts those choices into one bag.

How the rod switches

The part the company is proudest of is the handle. A micro trigger flip handle lets the angler turn the handle over to fit a baitcasting reel, with the small trigger giving the finger something to sit against when casting, or keep it the other way up for a spinning reel. Hybrid guides along the rod are designed to work with both types of reel, so nothing else has to change.

“At the heart of the design is a unique micro trigger flip handle, allowing anglers to switch between spinning and baitcasting reels, with hybrid guides supporting both setups,” the company says in its launch release. “Change the setup as the fishing changes.”

Five tips, six lengths

The rod comes with five interchangeable tips, each rated for a different maximum casting weight. According to the X10 product page, checked on 21 October 2026, they are:

  • red tip, up to 10g
  • green tip, up to 15g
  • clear tip, up to 20g
  • short tip, up to 40g
  • “Short Tip Max”, up to 100g

In the release’s words, that covers “light lures to heavier presentations”. There are three base lengths, 213cm (7ft), 187cm (6ft 2in) and 172cm (5ft 8in), and a 10cm butt extension that can be added to any of them for a longer handle and better balance, which is where the six length options come from.

The blank is what the company calls SRF, a blend of carbon, Zylon, graphite and hi-glass. “Its SRF blend of carbon, Zylon, graphite and hi-glass combines strength, sensitivity and flexibility,” the release says. “With the longest packed sections measuring just 40.5cm (16 inches), this versatile system fits into a rucksack, luggage or car boot, ready for the next opportunity.”

Who it is for

Rigged & Ready builds its rods for people who fish on the move rather than from one peg all day, and the X10 is aimed at the same angler.

“Lure fishing has become a major trend in angling, attracting a new generation who want to stay mobile and find the fish,” the company says. “Built for anglers who want to move and fish, the X10 makes it easier to explore a riverbank, hike to a remote lake or take fishing on holiday. From camping and boating to campervan adventures, it saves space and reduces the need to buy and transport multiple rods. Pack less. Explore more. Keep fishing.”

It can also go beyond lures. A Rigged & Ready Fly Tip, sold separately, converts the X10 for fly fishing. Reels are not included with the rod.

Price and where to buy it

The X10 Lure was listed at £100 on the Rigged & Ready website when we checked on 21 October 2026. The company sells direct to anglers, and the rod carries its two-year rod protection promise: replacement parts and standard postage are free for manufacturing faults, and accidental damage parts carry a small charge plus postage, subject to the promise terms.

A Kendal business

Rigged & Ready describes itself as “the small fishing rod company”. It is a family-run business based in Kendal that sells direct to anglers around the world, with ranges including the Smuggler Series and X Series; the X Ultimate, the company says, offers up to 32 fishing techniques from one rod system. Its motto is “Go Anywhere. Fish Everywhere.”

The business is also printing a guide of its own, Lake District & Cumbria Fishing: Lakes, Rivers, Tarns & Coast, compiled by Andy Rigg. It covers free fishing on waters including Windermere, Ullswater and Coniston Water, game and coarse fishing, sea fishing on the Cumbrian coast, clubs, guides, hotels and tackle shops, and opens with a conduct code for anglers. “Free fishing means there is no fishing-ticket charge,” the guide says, “it does not mean every bank is open or that fishing rules do not apply”: anglers still need an Environment Agency rod licence where required, permission to fish and lawful access.
