The opening days

Levens Hall lists nine Christmas days, all from 10.30am to 4pm with last entry at 3.30pm:

Christmas at Levens Hall 2026 opening days, from the hall's Christmas page
WeekendFridaySaturdaySunday
First4 December5 December6 December
Second11 December12 December13 December
Third18 December19 December20 December

One listing says otherwise. The hall’s own events diary gives the event as “Fri 04 Dec 2026 - Wed 23 Dec 2026”. The Christmas page itself names only the nine Fridays and weekends above, under the heading “Fridays & Weekends During December”, so we have used those. If you are thinking of a weekday visit, ring the hall first on 015395 60321.

Levens Kitchen, the bakery and the gift shop are separate from the Christmas opening and stay open seven days a week, 9.30am to 4.30pm for the kitchen through to 31 December.

What is on

In the hall’s words: “The House will be beautifully decorated for Christmas and fires will be lit. Choirs and musicians from the local area will be performing carols and traditional Christmas music in the Great Hall.” The topiary garden, “just clipped and set against a crisp Winter blue sky” on a good day, is open to walk round, and Levens Kitchen serves a festive menu.

The music is on Saturdays and Sundays, in a morning session from 11am to 1pm and an afternoon session from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. On 7 October the hall’s timetable listed the six dates with no performers yet, and said “full details to follow”. We will add the choirs when they are published.

The hall notes that Historic Houses membership does not apply to its special events, so members pay as well. Coach groups can ask about discounted packages on 015395 60321 or houseopening@levenshall.co.uk.

Father Christmas

Father Christmas is in the Old Nursery inside the house on the six Saturdays and Sundays: 5 and 6, 12 and 13, and 19 and 20 December. The hall says he is coming back “following on from his very successful visit to us last year”.

  • Slots are five minutes long, from 10.45am to 3.30pm with a break over lunch. On 7 October a few slots on the first Saturday had already been taken.
  • £25 covers one child and one adult. The ticket shop says: “One free adult with each child ticket. Additional adults normal admission fee on arrival.”
  • One child per slot. For two or more children, book the first slot, then go to the basket and choose “Add more” to pick the next (Levens Hall tickets).

Christmas workshops

Five workshops are listed at the hall in the run-up, each booked separately:

  • Rag rug wreath, Friday 13 November, 10am to 1pm, £55 with all materials (Levens Hall).
  • Rag rug wreath, Monday 16 November, 10am to 1pm, £55, booked through Mad Ruggers on Bookwhen. The listing’s subtitle calls it a garland workshop, but the description is for a wreath (Levens Hall).
  • Gold leaf Christmas cards, Friday 4 December, 10am to 12.30pm, £40, with Bob Sutcliffe (Levens Hall).
  • Family Christmas card workshop, Saturday 5 December, 10am to 11.30am, £20, and “adults are free with a paying child” (Levens Hall).
  • A Christmas Cornucopia, Monday 14 December, 10am to 3pm, £70 with a light lunch: a table decoration with Stem and Petal and gold leaf cards. Places are “strictly limited” (Levens Hall).

The three Bob Sutcliffe workshops are booked through bobsutcliffeart.com.

Getting there and parking

Levens Hall is at LA8 0PD, five miles south of Kendal. From junction 36 of the M6, take the A590 towards Barrow, then the A6 south towards Milnthorpe and follow the brown signs. Parking is free, the hall says (Finding Levens Hall).

Without a car, the hall says the 555 Lakes Rider between Keswick and Lancaster, which runs through Kendal, stops right outside, and that it runs hourly on weekdays and every two hours on Sundays; check the December timetable before you travel. Oxenholme station is about ten minutes away by taxi.

Coming through Kendal on the way, our parking in Kendal and Kendal roadworks and travel pages have the latest.

Before Christmas: the normal season ends 8 November

The house and gardens are open as usual every day until Sunday 8 November, at £15 for an adult and £5 for a child for the house and gardens. Halloween Ghostly House Tours run from 29 October to 1 November; see our Kendal Halloween page.
