We checked 4 Christmas tree sellers near Kendal, from Beetham Nurseries to a Lake District tree you rent and return, for dates and prices. Updated November 2026.

There are four places near Kendal selling or renting real Christmas trees in 2026, and this guide puts them in one place with dates, opening hours and the prices they publish. Beetham Nurseries near Milnthorpe is the name most people land on, with hundreds of cut and potted trees; Yew Tree Barn near Cartmel sells Nordmann firs at its December market; Hayes Garden Centre in Ambleside stocks them too; and Lake District Eco Christmas Trees rents a living tree and takes it back in January. Every entry was checked against the seller’s own website on 5 November 2026.

Kendal itself has no dedicated tree farm with a 2026 season on its website, so every entry is a short drive out of town. Dates and stock change as the season goes on, so ring before a special trip.

What a tree costs

Only two sellers publish a price. Lake District Eco Christmas Trees charges £33 for a 3ft rented tree, £44 for 4ft and £55 for 5ft, plus delivery. British Garden Centres, which runs Hayes in Ambleside, advertises real trees “from £24.99 (3ft to 5ft)” on a group page that carries no year. Beetham Nurseries and Yew Tree Barn publish no tree prices online.

South of Kendal

1. Beetham Nurseries, near Milnthorpe

A garden centre off the A6 at Beetham, about eight miles south of Kendal, with a food hall, gift shop and the Garden Cafe. Its Christmas Market page says that “as always” it “will have hundreds of freshly cut and potted Christmas trees in stock”, to browse by the fire pit, and that Garden Club members get 10% off; the club is free to join at the till.

The Christmas Market itself runs from Thursday 3 to Sunday 6 December, with stalls in tipis, live music and a launch evening from 5pm to 7.30pm on the Thursday. The page gives no date for the trees arriving.

2. Yew Tree Barn, Low Newton, near Cartmel

A family-run architectural antiques and reclamation yard with Harry’s Cafe, off the A590 at Low Newton, about 12 miles south-west of Kendal. Its Christmas Festival Market runs on Friday 4, Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December 2026, 10am to 4pm, and the barn says visitors will be able to buy a Christmas door wreath and “a Nordmann Fir Christmas Tree”, alongside artisan stalls, street food, fire pits, mulled wine and book signings.

The market page does not say whether trees are sold before or after that weekend, so ring first if you want one at another time. Yew Tree Barn notes it is on the X6 bus route between Kendal and Grange-over-Sands.

Ambleside

3. Hayes Garden Centre, Ambleside

The garden centre on Lake Road, about 13 miles north-west of Kendal, now part of the British Garden Centres group. Its centre page says the Christmas department “is now open” with “lights, decorations, trees and so much more”, and the group’s real tree page says “all of our stores will be stocking” Nordmann firs sourced from Ireland, from £24.99 for 3 to 5ft.

That group page carries no year and the Ambleside page does not list tree sizes or a delivery date, so ring the centre to check stock. It has free parking, a restaurant and a Santa’s grotto.

Delivered to your door

4. Lake District Eco Christmas Trees (rental)

A tree you rent rather than buy. The business grows Norway spruce in pots on its farm in the Lake District National Park, lends one out for Christmas, then takes it back to keep growing; it says it will tag the tree so the same one can come back to you the next year, and it plants another tree for every one rented.

Its FAQ asks that trees stay outside until about 7 December and spend only three to four weeks indoors, with a pint of water a day. General sale opens on 6 November, deliveries and collections begin on 10 December, and trees go back from 2 January.

On 5 November its 6ft and 7ft trees were already out of stock.

Open online shop; general sale from 6 November; deliveries from 10 December; returns from 2 January
Price rental 3ft £33; 4ft £44; 5ft £55; 6ft £66 and 7ft £77 (both out of stock on 5 November); delivery or collection £15 each way to Kendal and the rest of Cumbria; saucer hire £3

Getting rid of the tree in January

  • Rented trees go back to Lake District Eco Christmas Trees from 2 January, collected for £15 or dropped at its hub for free.
  • Garden waste bins in the former South Lakeland area are not collected in December, January or February, so a cut tree will not go out with the garden waste until March. Our Kendal bin collection days page has the Christmas changes and the Canal Head North recycling centre’s hours.

How we chose

These are the sellers near Kendal that publish 2026 Christmas tree plans on their own websites, found through those sites, Visit Lake District listings and the tree lists published around Cumbria and north Lancashire in past years. We read each seller’s site on 5 November 2026. We left out Cosy Logs at Ings, near Staveley, whose Christmas tree page still describes the 2023 season after the business passed to a new owner; Forestry England’s Grizedale tree sales page, which has been taken down; and online-only national delivery firms. Low Sizergh Barn and Plumgarths both take Christmas food orders but list no trees. If a tree seller near Kendal publishes its 2026 dates, we will add it.
